Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 19 preview: The story of Jo’s mother

Grey's Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 19 is entitled “Silent All These Years.” It may also be one of the most important stories we’ve seen for the Jo character since her arrival in this world.

For most of tonight’s “Add It Up,” Jo was off-screen, presumably doing whatever she could to find her biological mother. We saw a brief glimpse of her at the end of the episode in bed, and she appeared to have quite a bit that she was working through in her mind. As for what way those wheels were turning, there was a sense of fear when Jo first decided to find out the truth about her past. You want to hope that there’s a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow, but there’s also a chance that there is a hefty lump of coal. We’ve seen examples of both over the years on TV, with Jason Avery being an example of the coal. Think of what he went through to see his father when he ventured out of state with April; think, think about what was there on the other side. Jo doesn’t need to dabble into this part of her past, given that she has a great husband, a wonderful job, and friends who will cheer for her no matter what. This is an enigma and sometimes, enigmas can be nightmares.

Below, CarterMatt does offer up the official Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 19 synopsis with a little more insight as to what’s set to come next:

When a trauma patient arrives at Grey Sloan, it forces Jo to confront her past. Meanwhile, Bailey and Ben have to talk to Tuck about dating.

The photo above features Jo, wearing street clothes, standing outside of what may be someone’s house. Is it her mom’s? You obviously have to consider that mostly because this is not a show that dabbles all that often in residential neighborhoods, let alone featuring Jo on her own with a slightly-concerned look on her face.

What can you hope for from an episode like this?

Peace. That may seem rudimentary, but asking for too much may be throwing a bit too much greed in the direction of the writers. You want to get some answers as to who Jo’s mother was and what happened, but you don’t want to request a waterfall of information when sometimes, a small stream is all that’s needed. These stories are about emotion as opposed to exposition. So long as the creative team focuses on that, and allows Luddington the time to breathe and speak these words, Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 19 could be one for the books. It will certainly be the one that catches the attention of Jo fans everywhere.

As for Bailey and Ben, we have another rudimentary word to share: Relief. Namely, relief that the writers haven’t forgotten that Turk exists given how little the character is referenced these days.
