Curious about what’s next on Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 19? Let’s start off here with the fact that it’s not airing on NBC next week. We’re about to embark on another brief break between episode, but when the show returns on April 4 you will see another deeply intense case, one with notable guest stars (Shiri Appleby included!) and then also a top-tier director in Lucy Liu. She’s directed episodes previously of Elementary, but this is the first foray into this powerful, complicated world.

Given the talent that is all around this story, you have to know that this will be an episode like no other. On the surface, it’s something simple — a dispute between two people. What makes it different is the nature of the accusations and the way in which they come out. It all starts at a wedding, one of the most shocking ones that you’ve ever seen.

For some more insight on what’s next, take a look at the official SVU season 20 episode 19 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below:

04/04/2019 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Thursday) : The SVU investigates a he-said, she-said case when a woman crashes a wedding to accuse her therapist of sexual assault. Starring Mariska Hargitay, Kelli Giddish and Peter Scanavino. Guest starring Shiri Appleby (Kitty Bennett), TJ Thyne (Dr. Joshua Hensley), Maureen Sebastian (Lana Stallworth), Poppy Liu (Hannah Berkowitz) and Garrett Turner (Bo Albrecht). Directed by Lucy Liu. TV-14 DL

The hook here is all about the wedding. Why choose this venue to make your accusation public? The obvious school of that is that the victim may have just heard about the wedding, and recognizes that this is the only opportunity to protect the bride-to-be and tell them the truth. The aftermath of this is challenging in a way we can’t even begin to describe. If you’re said bride, you have to figure out in that moment what you want to do in terms of this new information and the wedding … with all of your friends and family around you. It’s a chilling, trying position where every angle, every choice leads to more questions then answers.

As you look towards the primary goal of justice with all things SVU, you have to hope for the best result no matter what the bride decides within this moment. Her saying “I do” will not stop a further investigation. That envelope has already been opened and the contents are spilling out. The complications of the profession will, no doubt, complicate this case further as the therapist may choose to proclaim all sorts of privileges or that the accusations are some sort of byproduct of an “illness” that is exaggerated within their own diagnosis. If there are few other pieces of evidence, SVU may find themselves circling the truth as though it’s at the center of a maze. Yet, they may not be able to find that clear path that brings them there.
