Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 18 preview: Teddy’s pregnancy scare

Teddy

Next week, Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 18 will feature men at odds — basically, “Men at Odds” could be its title, if there was actually a song out there that had this particular name. Alas, there is not, so instead we’re getting a story entitled “Add It Up.” You’ve got in here Alex vs. DeLuca, Owen vs. Koracick, and there could be even more rivalries and issues beyond that! It’s also easy to see where some of these are coming from…

Before we write out too much else, though, let’s kick things off with the Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 18 synopsis:

Maggie introduces mood rooms as an alternative approach to medicine. Alex and DeLuca butt heads over an 11-year-old patient who tries to sabotage her own surgery. Jackson and Richard deal with a gender non-binary patient. Meanwhile, Teddy has a pregnancy scare that brings Owen and Koracick to odds.

Now, let’s get into these conflicts with a scalpel — at least a metaphorical one, anyway.

Alex vs. DeLuca – Absolutely they’re concerned over an 11-year old who decides that they want to mess around with their own surgery. Beyond that, how much of this fight is due to Meredith? We’re not trying to go down any sort of Meredith/Alex rabbit hole here; instead, we mostly just think that there is bound to be tension anytime someone new turns up and interrupts a dynamic that was clearly established and comfortable. Meredith is Alex’s security blanket in so many ways; he can go to her at all times. Now, there’s someone else monopolizing what little time is left when you think about the time she’s already spending as a parent and as a doctor. He may wish at some point here that there was a procedure to remove Andrew from this whole situation.

Owen vs. Koracick – The drama here is a little bit more explicit, wouldn’t you say? We definitely would, largely since Teddy is pregnant with Owen’s baby and Owen’s feeling a certain way about Tom and his “intentions.” Owen is basically that contestant on The Bachelorette who totally misreads some offhand comments and decides that he wants to be a white knight when really, there’s no one in need of saving. Teddy’s making the decisions that are best for her, and the last thing that she needs is someone like Owen dictating who she should and should not date.

This brings us back to the pregnancy scare in this episode — we get that this is a heightened crisis with a lot of drama, but can these two please get themselves together for the sake of the baby? Is that too much to ask?

Another side note

To all the writers, we come bearing one request — can you please give us something more on Jo’s family now that we know here biological mother is out there? We get it that sometimes, you give us a storyline and then kick it down the curb to focus on some other stuff. This isn’t the sort of situation where we’re going to forget about it! You’ve set up the surprise and now, it’s time to deliver the goods. (All signs point to these moments coming before too long…)
