Widow’s Bay season 2: EP on Tom’s revelations, Evan’s future

As we do look more and more towards Widow’s Bay season 2 on Apple TV, we are bracing for a situation that is very much ominous in its own way. For most of season 1, Tom’s son Evan was desperate to leave the island and for a brief moment, it felt like it was possible. He had a chance to go to the Red Sox game!

Unfortunately, everything now feels different due to what Tom learned: Evan is the last descendant of Richard Warren. He can’t ever leave and beyond that, he may be the key to the curse of the island continuing. We already saw what the Sheriff was willing to do to Ruth in order to get his family off the island; what would someone do to Evan? There is a significant risk there to worry about.

Speaking to Deadline, creator Katie Dippold indicates just where Tom’s head is at when it comes to his son, himself, and also trying to still make Widow’s Bay a better place after all of this:

I guess I would say, for Loftis, who has had dreams of getting off this island, first he wants to make it a better place because deep, deep down, he knows his son probably can’t leave because of what happened to his wife. You learn in the finale that deep down, he’s known all along, and a lot of this show for me was about acceptance. I’ve had this experience in my life where if you’re repressing a lot and you just, instead, sort of have this overly optimistic idea of what life should be and then you at a certain point have to come to terms with what life is, that it’s not going to be Martha’s Vineyard, so to speak. There’s going to be highs and there’s going to be very low lows, and Loftis is coming to terms with this, and so it’s about acceptance. And so the finale, to me, is him realizing that he’s never going to leave this island, that his son can never leave this island, and coming to terms of what that means and how much of what Ruth has said to him has landed on him. And also God help him if anyone on the island finds out that Evan is the last [descendant].

Fingers crossed that between now and when season 2 premieres, we’re going to get a little more scoop. We are just prepared to wait a little while, as that is the nature of the beast when it comes to this sort of show.
