Shadowhunters season 3 episode 12 ratings, plus the full picture

Shadowhunters season 3 cast

For those looking for your weekly breakdown of Shadowhunters ratings, we’ve got it for you within from season 3 episode 12.

If you missed it, at the bottom of this article we have our full take on Monday night’s episode! On the other side of checking that out, subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube and remember to also check out our official Shadowhunters playlist. You don’t want to miss any other update we’ve got coming this season!

So what are we looking at here? Let’s start with some of our customary caveats — we are talking here about live+same-day ratings only, and those count viewers in the United States. If you’re watching from Europe, Asia, or even Canada, that’s awesome! They just don’t count in these particular numbers. The same goes for those who are watching via DVR today.

It’s a million percent true that the ratings measurement system for all TV is fairly outdated, but unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like anyone is coming up with a way to make it any less so. It’s a shame, really, but we get it that live viewership makes the most money and that Freeform is the network that originated the show stateside. Those things matter.

Anyhow, season 3 episode 12 overall generated a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and close to 310,000 total live viewers. These numbers do mark a decline versus the show’s midseason premiere late last month, but we don’t know who out there would have really expected anything otherwise. Typically, premiere episodes always post higher ratings, and this is still a show that came back after a lengthy hiatus following some cancellation news. It’s really difficult for a show in Shadowhunters’ position to build up an audience, especially when you consider some of the competition that it’s up against at the night. In particular, there were two shows on in The Bachelor and The Voice that each generated more than a 2.0 rating in that same timeslot — while reality TV may not be everyone’s preference, at the same exact time it’s hard to deny its overall impact.

In comparison to what some other Freeform shows are drawing at the moment, Shadowhunters is slightly outperforming the most-recent season of The Bold Type and is fairly close to recent episodes of Good Trouble. The numbers as they are, clearly, aren’t the only issue that landed the show where it was. Do we think that if there were stronger numbers that maybe the situation with Netflix and the breakdown of those negotiations could have been avoided? It’s possible, but really, playing the woulda, coulda, shoulda game doesn’t get anyone anywhere. The main point of these ratings articles is to show where the show stands and to remind people within the television world that despite all that has happened, there is a fairly large contingent of people still watching and enjoying Shadowhunters. We wish it was even more, but as momentum builds and we get ever closer to the finale, there are opportunities to see these figures expand.
