Legacies episode 13 preview: Is Landon really missing?

Landon

Next week, Legacies episode 13 is arriving on The CW with a number of events that need to be resolved — especially when it comes to Landon and his whereabouts.

Where is the guy? Hope in particular isn’t going to know either where he is or what’s happened to him and throughout this episode we are likely going to be hunting for various answers … among a number of other things. Hope, Alaric, and Kaleb will be working to lead the charge to find answers and the only information available seems to be coming via Rafael, but unfortunately he doesn’t know much. That’s something that Rafael himself confirms at the end of the promo (which you can see below), and it’s confirmed further by the attached Legacies episode 13 synopsis:

PAUL WESLEY DIRECTS – When a spontaneous road trip to visit MG’s (Quincy Fouse) parents leaves him and Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) missing, and a distressed Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) with no memory of what happened, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), Alaric (Matthew Davis) and Kaleb (guest star Chris Lee) set out to find them before it’s too late. Paul Wesley directed the episode written by Mark Ryan Walberg and teleplay by Bryce Ahart & Stephanie McFarlane (#111). Original airdate 3/7/2019.

Consider this synopsis another reminder that even the most innocent thing within the world of Legacies leads to unintended consequences. We’ve seen that with this show time and time again, whether it be a visit to Mystic Falls High, a talent show, or even just trying to study for exams. There is almost always some sort of terrible monster lurking underneath the surface or waiting on the other side of some super-creepy tree. What makes this upcoming episode so effective and fascinating is the aesthetic — things are going to be dark and creepy. We know that doing night shoots out in the woods of the greater Atlanta area is probably not an actor’s idea of a good time, but it plays really well when you can get it on film. This is the sort of darkness that harkens back to The Vampire Diaries and really the world of any supernatural creature. The one cornerstone of these sort of beings in literature is that they operate at night because they know they can’t be seen during the day.

The emotional stakes

There is obviously a reason for Hope to seek out Landon because of the feelings that she has for him … but who imagined that the relationship picture for Legacies would get so messy, so quickly? Think about everything with Josie and Penelope, and then also the feelings that Josie has for Hope and how some of those were a driving force in making Lizzie dislike her. Like we said… messy.

The Paul Wesley factor

Do we think that there’s going to be some sort of enormous ratings boost for this episode because Paul is directing? Probably not, since the ratings world doesn’t quite work like that. Nonetheless, it is still totally cool that someone from the original Vampire Diaries (beyond of course Matthew Davis) still wants to be involved in the present-day iteration of this franchise.

As for whether or not we’re ever going to see Stefan Salvatore on the show itself … we’re not exactly banking on that.
