Doctor Who season 12: Alex Kingston interested in returning

Speaking in a new interview with the Radio Times, the actress behind the notable character (who last appeared during Peter Capaldi’s time on the show) had the following to say about her past meeting with Jodie Whittaker, and the interest that she has in coming back for more:
“Yeah, I did meet her … We chatted about me coming back to Doctor Who! I love the character, and I think that, my gosh, there are wonderful potential opportunities down the road. But it’s not my decision.”
In the end, a River Song return will be up to the show’s executive producer Chris Chibnall … who has really tried his best to make the new iteration of the series completely new and separate. It wasn’t until the New Year’s Special when we saw the Daleks for the first time, and there were a lot of other different monsters that were completely left out. We do think that over the coming years, there will be opportunities that present themselves to make this show a little bit more nostalgic … but there was clearly an effort, especially in the early going for season 11, to try to make this show its own thing that was completely separate from everything else that existed in previous seasons. It was meant to usher in a new generation.
Unfortunately, no matter what is decided, you’re going to have to wait a long time in order to see what is coming up next. Signs point towards an early 2020 launch for Doctor Who season 12 — the show is taking its time in order to be perfect, and the entirety of the cast from season 11 (including Whittaker) is going to be coming back for more. Brace yourselves for even more fun adventures and plenty of surprises! Maybe those include Alex Kingston at some point … after all, she and The Doctor have a history that is totally different than almost any other character out there.
