The Good Doctor season 2 episode 15 review: Meet Dr. Jackson Han

Daniel Dae Kim

Tonight, The Good Doctor season 2 episode 15 introduced us for the first time to Dr. Jackson Han … and we don’t think that he made a whole lot of friends.

What we’ve learned about Shaun, who is the new chief of surgery, is that he’s very much a my-way-or-the-highway sort of guy. There really isn’t all that much when it comes to compromise with him, and what he saw over the course of tonight’s episode was that Shaun does have value. With that being said, this value is not within the surgical department. Tonight, Dr. Han (played fantastically by Daniel Dae Kim) worked in order to get him moved over to pathology, where his diagnostic skills can be put to use without him having to interact directly with patients.

For Jackson, this is a move mostly based out of efficiency. He has a mindset that is very specific in terms of what he thinks is the right and wrong way to be a doctor. He plays music in the operating room and doesn’t spend a lot of time thinking about the specific needs of residents if they get in the way of his job. He’s a fascinating person, and we at least appreciate that he’s not the same thorn-in-Shaun’s-side character we’ve seen already who is trying to constantly get him fired.

Of course, we imagine that moving forward Shaun is going to fight for some of what he wants, and that includes his career and to show that he’s so much more than whatever Jackson assumes. He will still have people in his corner, including Dr. Glassman, who is probably going to be happy to do anything that isn’t tied to dealing with that cancer therapy guy that he was stuck with for a little while within this episode.

CarterMatt Verdict

Overall, The Good Doctor season 2 episode 15 is one that delivered a lot of fantastic content and some good performances — plus also the direction of one Freddie Highmore himself. We appreciate that it actually was somewhat focused on a couple of stories so that we got a better sense of Han’s impact on the team. Also, we do know what the medical challenge for Shaun is going to be moving forward through the end of this season. We consider that to be valuable to go along with whatever personal crisis he encounters.
