God Friended Me episode 14 review: On Cal, Miles, and baseball

God Friended Me

Tonight, God Friended Me episode 14 delivered you a great story that was all about baseball … and also all about Miles’ past.

At the center of the episode, Miles received a friend suggestion by the name of Derek, who turned out to be a top prospect within the world of baseball. He also happened to be coached by Cal, who was an old friend of Miles’ dating back to high school. The two at one point were super-close, but their friendship fell apart when Miles told him that he wasn’t ready to go right to the Majors. Cal didn’t listen and ended up failing — he saw Cal as his second chance to make it back.

With that in mind, it was Miles’ goal within this episode to find a way to turn the tide a little bit, and get both Cal and Derek to think a little bit differently. His change-up wasn’t there and thanks to Miles’ advice, he decided to go to college instead. Within this story, we had a chance to see Miles maybe find a way in order to build a friendship that once crumbled. Obviously, Cal does still need to get over some of his insecurities.

There was a nice moment at the end of this episode with Miles and Cal throwing the baseball around at Yankee Stadium — and yea, it was totally weird to see a football-field design in there. (Yet, it’s not baseball season right now.)

In the end, this episode was about characters realizing that sometimes, it is okay in order to listen to other ideas, even if they at first think that these ideas are bad. Cara encouraged Miles to submit his podcast to a new project to boost its listener base, and in the end, he opted to do just that.

What happened elsewhere?

Well, tonight Rakesh had a chance to try and prove himself to his new colleagues at the IT department. He had a hard time convincing his new colleagues to listen but, like with Cal, they figured out that they really were going to be better off doing so.

Also, Arthur’s job may be in trouble — he has to start thinking about his future as a priest after a new assistant was brought in, someone who didn’t think they were replacing him but may end up being just that.

CarterMatt Verdict

While this episode didn’t really get you any closer to solving the mystery of the God Account, it was nice to be able to dive a little bit into Miles’ past and see how this shapes a little bit more of who he is today.
