Saturday Night Live: John Mulaney hosting March 2; Thomas Rhett to perform

Going into tonight’s new Saturday Night Liveconventional wisdom suggested that we were gearing up for the final installment of February. With that in mind, we were of course curious about who would be the first host in the month of March! We know that the show has an almost-endless list of options since just about everyone should want to take on the gig.

For the show’s next new episode on March 2, the series is dipping back into familiar territory — John Mulaney is returning! It wasn’t that long ago that the comedian / former SNL writer hosted an episode of the show, and he also appeared recently in a Weekend Update sketch alongside Pete Davidson where the two reviewed the movie The Mule in as hilarious a fashion possible. It was one of the most-ridiculous things we’ve seen on the show in a while, and that may in part be the reason why the network wanted him back on as a host so soon.

Given that Mulaney has a history with so many different cast members, we have a pretty good feeling that he’ll be heavily involved in the creative process behind the scenes — he’ll have some ideas, and we also imagine that some other cast members w

As for the musical guest, country music superstar Thomas Rhett will be hitting the stage as a performer. One of the things that we’ve come to see with this show over the years is that they like to bring a lot of different genres to the table — because of that, we’re not shocked that they are going in the direction of country next. It brings that demographic to the show and we certainly think there is a chance that we could see him in a sketch or two along the way.
