Poldark season 5: What work still needs to be done?

Poldark

If you’ve been following the internet comings and goings of Poldark rather closely, then you know that season 5 filming is done! It wrapped up earlier this year and with that, there’s no more needs for any cast member to ever step foot on set again.

(Of course, with that it’s still fair to say that we’re still a little bit emotional over the thought of it. This show’s been a part of our life for so long!)

So while production is done on the BBC series, that doesn’t 100% mean that the work behind the scenes at all. There are still some reasons why you are probably not likely to see the series on the air until the summer.

For starters, there are episodes that need to be edited! It can take a lot of time in order to properly piece together a TV show, and that means in part compiling all sorts of great footage — some of it is for specific episodes, where some other parts of it are for trailers, promos, and the like. You also need to get together a sound mix, get the proper score factored in, and make sure that all of the shots look crisp and perfect.

As for what’s still left for the cast, there is a possibility that there are some lines still to record! Often, many actors have to go in and do ADR work after the fact, where they read specific lines that are either spoken by their characters while they’re off-screen or ones that maybe didn’t come out as desired on set. This is something that is usually done as a part of the post-production process, and can be hammered out within a fairly short period of time.

When do we expect more official information?

Odds are, it’s going to still be a while. We’d be shocked if there is anything definite put out into the world about Poldark season 5 over the next couple of months; if the series doesn’t premiere until May or June, the BB isn’t going to want to rush anything along. Why give one of their biggest shows away too soon?

One of the biggest struggles here is going to be for viewers in America, as the series isn’t likely to return to PBS until we get around to the fall — that’s at least if the series continues its airing pattern that we’ve seen so far.
