Grey’s Anatomy season 15 spoilers: Amy Acker playing Derek, Amelia’s sister

According to a report from TVLine, the Person of Interest / The Gifted star has been brought on board the ABC medical drama for at least one episode later this season as the mystery sister (also called Kate), who apparently works in psychiatry. Derek’s sisters have been a part of the show for a rather-long time, with Amelia being the most-prominent one. She was a major presence on Private Practice before eventually moving up to Seattle and being a major part of Grey’s Anatomy over the past several years.
In bringing on board Acker (who is already done filming the second and possibly final season of The Gifted), Grey’s Anatomy is getting a strong performer for this past and ensuring that she will be very much formidable and worth watching no matter the setting or the story. We want to get a better understanding, for starters, of why we really haven’t seen this character on the show before now. Beyond that, it would also be nice in order to understand what brings her to Seattle now, and also if she can prove to be a support system for Amelia. At present, Caterina Scorsone’s character is going through a lot, including the fact that Betty is not actually Betty at all. She’s learned that her real name is Brittany, and she’s been hiding out from her parents ever since running away. You’re going to have a chance to see those parents, played by Kyle Secor and Jennifer Grey, on the series starting Thursday night. Amelia’s personal relationship with Owen has also been complicated, which really cannot be a shock to anyone given that he is expecting a baby with someone else in Teddy. He’s expressed a commitment to being with her, but we know that in the world of Grey’s Anatomy, commitments don’t necessarily mean much.
The length of Acker’s arc remains to be seen, but we’d be happy if she stuck around for at least a reasonable stretch of time.
