NCIS: New Orleans season 5 episode 13 video: Meet Inspector Nero

Tuesday night’s NCIS: New Orleans season 5 episode 13 is a big one to us because one thing: LeVar Burton. After serving as a director on the series in the past, the former Reading Rainbow host is now appearing on-camera in the role of Inspector Nero and we couldn’t be more excited about it!

So what does Nero bring to the table? Apparently, a lot of know-how, but also some tension with Loretta Wade. In the sneak peek that CarterMatt has for you below for this upcoming episode, you can see Nero challenge Wade on some of her procedures in the lab, including the filing of proper forms and the timing in which she has done so. Nero is apparently a stickler for the rules, which makes sense given that he works for the Louisiana Department of Public Health. He’s not someone who seems to be altogether fond of some of Loretta’s work, or that is at least the impression that he giving in this moment. She’s going to fight back against him, given that Wade is no wallflower and she won’t just give in to whatever orders he chooses to hand down.

So why is Nero wandering around this NCIS team in the first place? A big part of that has to do with the disappearance of a rare, potentially-deadly virus was stolen at a research lab. He’s the sort of person who has the expertise to assist in the case, at least if he and Wade can ever get on the same page.

As a longtime Burton fan, this episode is more fun for us than most, and we hope that this sneak peek is some sort of indicator that we’re going to see Nero serve as some sort of foil to Loretta. One of the things that we love about this show is when we get a chance to see interesting character side-stories and get a wide array of people in the spotlight. We don’t want to generalize too much about this entire episode based on one single sneak peek, but at least we do have a little bit of Loretta at the center of a case. That’s a step in the right direction.
