‘How I Met Your Mother’ review: Are [spoiler] officially over?

We first heard a few weeks ago that this fall on “How I Met Your Mother” was going to be “breakup month,” and as it turned out, the producers wasted no time at all in making sure that one of these relationships came to a close rather quickly.

So who ended up ultimately breaking up by the end of the half-hour? After a lengthy discussion about prenuptial agreements and whether or not there is anything that these characters would change about their significant others, Barney and Quinn ended up calling it quits. What was really interesting about this split here is that the two really did seem to split over something as petty as pre-nups, and whether or not one person wanted to be the bigger person. It was not the perfect breakup in the world, but really in the midst of everything there was one reason why they didn’t work out: they really just trust each other. We know that Ted and Victoria and Nick and Robin are going to get back together, but they at least seem to be happy for the time being. However, that won’t happen for too much longer, and the end of the episode gave us a lovely Barney / Robin scene to look forward to where there was no pre-nup involved at all.

We also have to take a moment or two to celebrate the return of Bob Odenkirk to the show, as he has been rather busy as of late playing Saul on “Breaking Bad.” We actually like Marshall’s former boss as Goliath National Bank even more so than his old one, and he (in addition to Thomas Lennon’s Klaus, who was playing unwelcome housesitter to Ted) ended up being a source of most of the night’s comedy.

What did you think about this episode, and is a part of you happy that Barney and Quinn are now over mostly so that he can get back together with Robin? Be sure to share your thoughts below.
