If there is one thing that we’ll say about it at the moment, though, it’s simply this: We’re actually fine with it sticking around however long the writers want for it to, mostly because there’s something so satisfying about watching James Spader chew the scenery in a courtroom setting. There’s an intensity about it that we find exciting and the stakes are certainly there. Reddington is the sort of criminal who has that almost-constant ability to pull a rabbit out of his hat, even when it seems impossible and there’s nowhere else to go. Yet, somehow he figures it out and impresses us greatly.

02/22/2019 (09:00 PM – 10:00 PM) (Friday): While Red (James Spader) fights in court to clear his name of treason once and for all, Liz (Megan Boone) and the Task Force investigate a Blacklister who has a reputation for leveraging dark secrets. Ken Leung, Becky Ann Baker and Stephen Spinella guest star. TV-14 V
If this episode does mark the end of Reddington’s time behind bars, it would feel like the timing is more or less right. He’ll have been locked up for around six or seven episodes when you think about when he was actually arrested, and at a certain point, you do want to see him out on the street working with criminals and also against them. You do want to find ways in which to constantly reinvent the show, but you also don’t want to stick on one of those reinventions for too long. One of the best things that you can do with this series is to constantly find a way to keep moving forward at just about every opportunity. That way, you keep characters and viewers both on their toes.
