The Good Doctor season 2 episode 14 review: Faces and fears

The Good Doctor

Tonight, The Good Doctor season 2 episode 14 featured Shaun and Glassman in a situation that they aren’t often in: High. We also had a chance to see somehow through this a chance for Aaron to revisit his past.

There was beauty in the simplicity of this story, as Shaun worked with Dr. Glassman in order to try and recover something great that he once lost — a woman from high school in Robin. He wrote something nasty in her yearbook years ago and this was a chance in order to make amends. Even if there wasn’t a chance for anything substantial here, it was a chance for Glassman to look into his past.

Meanwhile, for Shaun, he was able to use this story to vocalize some of his own frustrations when it came to Jake and Lea — he didn’t like them together and just saying that, putting that out into the universe, was a good step in the right direction for him. Sure, there’s more that needs to be done, since he actually needs to say it to Lea herself.

As for the case at the heart of the episode tonight, it was a powerful one involving a face. A grieving mother was forced to make the impossible decision: Remove the face of her late daughter to give it to someone else in need. This led to a conflict between Dr. Lim and Dr. Melendez over how to handle a lost patient, one that made the two question whether or not they were doing the right thing in having a personal relationship while also still having their job at work.

In the end, they were able to successfully transplant the face and despite the obvious issues they were going through, Lim and Melendez still realized that they wanted to be together. Maybe they just learned some valuable lessons to assist them down the road.

CarterMatt Verdict

There are a lot of episodes of The Good Doctor meant to show you that life is a journey and to cherish every stop along the way. Meanwhile, you should learn something almost every second you can. This was one of those episodes. Rather than shaking the show to its very core, it shook things up enough so that it feels like the characters are a little bit wiser moving forward … but also still the people we love.
