‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: When will Sam and Dean take a back seat?

It’s strange to think of an episode of “Supernatural” ever happening without one of the Winchester brothers being the focus of the hour, but that is precisely still what is happening on an upcoming episode of the hit CW series to air presumably either on Halloween night or the following week.

According to a report from E! News, this new installment is actually going to feature a trio of teenagers who possess some sort of wolf-like abilities, and it is going to be shot via handheld camera like we’ve seen in such recent movies like “Chronicle” and “Cloverfield.” (Yes, we did find it strange to pay $10 to see something shot with handheld cameras in theaters, but to each his own.) This episode will be the fourth one of season 8, and we are a little unsure at the moment as to how much of a role this will play in the overall story. With this being said, we have a feeling that new showrunner Jeremy Carver is not just going to give us a new episode featuring three people who are not Sam and Dean just for s–ts and giggles. There will be some sort of purpose behind it, even if we do not find out right away what it is.

The season premiere of “Supernatural” is just two days away now, and it is looking as though this will once again be a critical year for the series. this is the first time in over two years that the show has aired somewhere away from Fridays, and this may be a good thing in that it is not up against other genre competition like “Fringe” or “Grimm.” However, it does now have to contend with the likes of “The X Factor,” “Modern Family,” and “Criminal Minds” for viewers, so this is no easy road, either.
