The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 teaser: Hulu airs ad during Super Bowl

So how much faith does Hulu have in The Handmaid’s Tale? Let’s just put it this way — they decided to air an ad during the Super Bowl.

It’s been a far-reported story at this point just how expensive it is to put an ad on during the big game — it costs a crazy amount of money in order to do this. Luckily, we do think that this proved to be a worthwhile spot. It was intense, topical, and also does a great job of defying expectations. It starts off by making you think it’s about something very different than what it ends up being. It’s a great way to promote an upcoming season, or at least pose some questions as to what is coming up next.

Do we think that this will get some new viewers watching the season? We like to think so, mostly because of what the streaming provider brought to the table here. They made a teaser that was incredibly dark and fantastically intense. We think that there are a lot of people who have heard a thing or two about The Handmaid’s Tale and precisely how good it is. Yet, at the same time, a lot of these people probably have never seen it. This is where some of the value comes when it comes to paying the money for a Super Bowl ad. If you have a great show and you think that there are more viewers out there for it, why not take this sort of risk?

Also, the hope here is that if you can get viewers subscribed in order to watch The Handmaid’s Tale, you have to think that they will be interested in checking out some of their other programming. Hulu has been working for a good while now in order to showcase more and more of their original programming. They still have a ways to go to get the attention of Netflix and other companies, but they are definitely on their way.
