Sir Patrick Stewart talks new Star Trek – CBS All Access show

Sir Patrick Stewart

It almost still feels surreal that Sir Patrick Stewart has a new show coming up on CBS All Access as Jean-Luc Picard. This is a legendary character, one that was beloved decades ago and will continue to be beloved still. Star Trek is one of those franchises that never gets old and The Next Generation is widely regarded by many as one of the best shows within the entire franchise at large.

Of course, the new series with Stewart is still under wraps — while we know that we’re excited, we’d probably be even more game in the event that there was actually some more information out there as to what it’s about.

For now, we’re just going to have to settle for some thematic teases and some vague hints as to what the story could look like. Speaking in a new interview with Yahoo, here is some of what the actor had to say on this subject:

“And what we have coming up is exciting. It’s exciting for me because it excites me as an actor. Oh, the story is great. And – I could be so careful what I say or they’ll skin me alive if I say the wrong things. But it has – it references the present day at times, and that’s all I can say, really. I’m not saying we are in the present day. We’re not. But the world that we find Jean-Luc Picard in is not quite the world that we left him in.”

Stewart also noted that his new show is going to be rather serialized in nature, so there is a reasonably good chance that this is going to feel more like an extended movie than it is a bunch of individual episodes all thrown around without that much of a theme. We just hope that this somehow proves to be worth the wait, since we’re not sure any series in the entire franchise has the sort of hype that this one does. Just the announcement of it alone was something that left audiences emotional. It’s the involvement of Sir Patrick that does give us the most hope, largely because he does understand acutely just what this means to so many people out there. He’s been at the conventions and he’s certainly also had a chance to witness some of the show’s staying power almost like no one else.
