The Good Doctor season 2 episode 13 review: The state of Shaun, Lea, & Dr. Glassman

Good Doctor season 2 episode 4

Tonight, The Good Doctor season 2 episode 13 opened up quite the emotional rift for Dr. Shaun Murphy and Dr. Aaron Glassman. Why was that? Helplessness. Shaun is still struggling with the fact that his mentor is struggling and there’s not a lot he can do in order to help. He also doesn’t like the fact that his friend is sick and there isn’t really all that much he can actually do in order to help him.

As for what we also saw on the show tonight, one of the most notable medical cases proved to be an interesting reflection of everything that Shaun was dealing with Lea — roommates who were dealing with trying to define their relationship. There was also autism here, but that was a more obvious parallel since one of the bigger ones was a little more of an emotional one. This was one of the scarier cases of this season, as well, mostly because of the fact that she needed to keep talking to it in order to ensure that she kept her voice. Her roommate (and sometimes lover) was there for her when she needed it and because of that, she was able to make it through.

Let’s talk now about Shaun and Lea since he was struggling with the fact that her new boyfriend Jake was around. He cared about her and because of that, it was rather difficult to see her with someone else, especially when he lived in the same place as her and could hear her in another room. That’s why he ended up paying a visit to her instead.

Shaun decided to visit Dr. Glassman at the end of the episode to get away from Lea, and found him struggling in the bathroom by the toilet. Sometimes, Richard Schiff is brilliant even without saying a word — but when he thanked Shaun, it just about broke us.

Dr. Park’s case was emotional and family-based, and we certainly do think that this was meant to be a reflection to his own situation in life, as well. After all, consider for a moment what he was going through and the difficulties that he had expressing his love to the people around him. He was already trying to be better before this episode even aired, but we consider what we saw tonight to be another reminder of that.

CarterMatt Verdict

This was a story about relationships tonight, and it was certainly one where Shaun and other characters realized that sometimes what they need isn’t necessarily what they realize.
