The Good Doctor season 2 episode 13 video: Shaun’s autistic patient

Preconceived notions are an important thing for any character to tackle, mostly because it’s so easy for characters to create judgments on superficial parts of who someone is. With that in mind, it’s hardly a surprise to see Morgan make assumptions (even subconscious ones) that Shaun will be able to better care for an autistic patient because of his own autism. While he may be more aware of some of the symptoms, that does not mean that the two have similar personalities or really anything else in common. Morgan may not be trying to generalize, but that may be how it comes across to Shaun.
When it comes to how he wants to handle the case as a doctor, his perspective feels pretty clear: The same as he would handle any other patient who he treats at the hospital. You can sense that just in the way that he reacts to the case or converses with the patient. There is a little bit of humor in the sneak peek (which you can check out below), but there is some underlying tension just because of the assumptions the other doctors may be making over his autism. This tension may become a little more overt as the episode goes along and we start to get more of a sense as to what’s going on with this patient and how they can be treated.
Could Shaun be on edge because of external factors in this episode?
That definitely seems possible, at least based on some of the events of last week’s episode. He may be struggling with the fact that Lea has a possible love interest in her life and with that, his own hopes of being with her are a little bit shattered. He may have understood the fundamental dynamics of their living arrangement, but he still may have hoped for more. Now, those hopes are starting to be shattered.
By the end of this particular episode, we imagine that all of these feelings on both storylines will become more overt.
