Shameless season 9 episode 9 preview: Why is Ford coming back?

If you’ve been following Shameless closely so far this season, you’ve probably got a few thoughts already on this guy and what he brings to the table. He’s hardly the most-popular dude in the world and for some pretty good reasons. He just has a tendency to do some really-nasty stuff, including carry on a double life beyond Fiona’s back. He broke her heart and helped to send her down a whole to where she is right now.
In a preview over here, you can get a pretty good sense of some of what’s coming up next for the character — he will turn up wondering about his tools, which have apparently gone missing. Fiona seems to not know anything about them, and claims that she hasn’t even thought about him in a while. (Whether or not that’s actually true is certainly something that is up for debate, but if you’re in her situation we more than understanding wanting to say something like that — you don’t want to give this dude all that much in the way of power.
Just because Fiona didn’t screw him over, though, does not mean that everyone around her is necessarily innocent. What we know about the Gallaghers is that despite their dysfunction, they do have a tendency to be there for each other when the chips are down. This is certainly something that we imagine happening here as some people close to her could have enacted some sort of revenge on the guy.
Here’s to hoping that we don’t see Ford too much after whatever we see within this episode. It’s clear at this point that the guy is a louse and he’s not good for Fiona’s future; with that, the best thing is for him to find a way to become exclusively a part of her past. We want to see her move forward, and we of course mean that even more now that we know that Emmy Rossum is going to be departing the series at the end of this coming season. We want to see her build towards finding some happiness.
