Blue Bloods season 9 spoilers: Why Danny, Jamie will be at odds
According to a report from TVLine, there’s going to be major tension in an upcoming episode where Danny deliberately disobeys an order from Jamie — something that, as you would imagine, is going to cause all sorts of brotherly chaos. We cannot say that we’re surprised about this happening, mostly because of what we know about Danny as a character. He’s headstrong, and one of the reasons we feel like he works so well as a detective is that he can trust his intuition more than anything else. He doesn’t put himself in a situation where he has to take orders all of that much.
However, the problem that comes with him doing this in this particular situation is that he undermines his own brother, someone who is still very much eager to get the respect of some of his colleagues. Jamie is still working to establish himself as a Sergeant within the NYPD and not just his father’s son. That’s not a particularly easy thing to do, especially when he’s struggling to get the respect of some of the people working under him in his precinct.
The most important thing entering this episode is that there are some chances for Danny and Jamie to share the screen together — while Donnie Wahlberg and Will Estes certainly spend a lot of time working together at the family-dinner table, that’s just a small percentage of the overall episode. The majority of the time, the two work together on separate storylines and very rarely do the two actually collide professionally. We think that this is a great chance to explore the dynamic between the two of them, and we certainly would like more Danny / Jamie scenes leading up to the Jamie – Eddie wedding. There may be hard times here and there, but we certainly do think that Danny has his back when the situation matters. He’ll be there for him when he needs it.
Blue Bloods season 9 is going to return with new episodes on February 1.
