House of the Dragon season 3 star on Alicent, Aemond kiss

We know that with a series like House of the Dragon, it is best to be prepared for just about anything. At the same time, how could you ever expect the kiss that we got?
Near the closing minutes of the season 3 premiere, Aemond was eventually coerced into leaving King’s Landing thanks to his mother Alicent — and he also kissed her? It was one of the more shocking events this season and the look on her face really said it all. She was horrified and yet, she had to go along with it as a measure to ensure his safety.

Whether or not there is anything that continues as a result of this kiss remains to be seen. Yet, psychologically, it is a move that is at least rooted in some specific things about Aemond. Speaking on that further to TVLine, here is what Ewan Mitchell himself had to say:
“He has a very skewered perception of love, so to speak. He doesn’t necessarily know how to show that, or show it to other people, and that’s kind of what you see in that moment … Maybe it is sprinkled in with a bit of the Oedipus complex, and this striving that he has for always finding a maternal figure in his life … But yeah, I think the way that Liv Cooke played it was just a masterclass… it’s an absolute gift to be able to work with Liv Cooke.”
We would presume that at some point soon, Aemond will end up returning to the Iron Throne to try his best to rule. After all, with Aegon in the wind, who else is going to take up that charge? The only other figure to watch at this point may be Ormund Hightower, who is clearly someone eager to make his presence felt throughout the season.
