Magnum PI episode 11 is set to air on CBS Monday night, but it’s a bit of different story than originally expected. “Nowhere to Hide” is now going to be the installment airing on January 14, and it is replacing one entitled “Day of the Viper” that was originally set to air here. (For those wondering, “Day of the Viper” is still going to air, just one week later.)

Why make this change? There’s often a number of different behind-the-scenes reasons for it, but in the end there must have been a thought on CBS’ end that this was the perfect way to kick off the new year. You always do want to get an episode out there that satisfies much of what your fans want — with this show, our assumption is mostly that there is a craving for action, humor, and a little bit of character-building along the way. The goal should be that you learn something new about at least one character through every episode, at least for a show that is in its first season. Maybe they do achieve that here.

Below, CarterMatt has the official Magnum PI episode 11 synopsis with some more news as to what’s coming:

“Nowhere to Hide” – As Magnum helps a woman (Vera Cherny) find her missing cousin, Sergei (Ilia Volok), a Russian fugitive, Higgins’ and Kumu’s lives are put in danger when they get too close to the case, on MAGNUM P.I., Monday, Jan. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Just based on reading that alone, you get an idea as to why CBS would be excited about this installment — and also why you should be. This is a chance, after all, to see a story with some genuine high stakes and danger for a lot of different characters. You want there to be an intense episode that kicks things off and makes people think a little bit about everything they’ve seen to date.

In general, January is going to be an especially-enormous month for Magnum PI. Why is that? Well, you’re going to get a run of new episodes that includes one that is airing following the NFC Championship Game. That has the potential to be the highest-rated episode of the whole season to date, and if the show has its way, that will be a great launching pad for more stories down the road.
