Where is Jack on MacGyver season 3 tonight? Has George Eads left yet?

MacGyver season 3 episode 2

Where is Jack on MacGyver season 3 episode 12? If you watched tonight’s episode, there’s a good chance that you may have missed the character. We get that given that he was a foundational part of most of the first two seasons — he was Mac’s partner, and he is an original cast member of the series.

Unfortunately, we have to prepare ourselves for a reality in which Jack in not going to be a major part of the show in the future. In the event you haven’t heard already, George Eads is going to be departing MacGyver at some point very soon — Eads has not publicly spoken out about his departure, but there enough reporting out there to make it clear that he won’t be a part of the series for too much longer. (All indications do suggest that it was George’s choice to leave the series, one brought on by a desire to spend more time with his family.)

With all of that being said … we know that we aren’t going to be losing the character just yet. Eads is not done with MacGyver just yet, as he’s got at least two more episodes that you’ll see of him as Jack. The one surprise with tonight’s episode is that there really wasn’t all that much time spent to really address his exit at all. This felt more like the show wanting to begin the process of moving forward and giving it a chance to stretch its wings. We do think that the episode tonight was a good one, even if he wasn’t a part of it.

If Jack is leaving…

We don’t want to see this exit as a particularly-sad one, mostly because 1) the character of Jack Dalton deserves a happier ending, at least for the time being, and 2) this is a show that tends to be a little lighthearted in tone. It’s not one that is fully steeped in tragedy.

Once we do get some more scoop when it comes to Eads’ future on MacGyver, we will let you know — for now, though, prepare to say goodbye in the reasonably-immediate future.
