911 season 3 renewal odds: Are more episodes a given at Fox?

911 season 2

Should we be extremely confident that there’s going to be a 911 season 3 over on Fox? In this particular Ratings Watch article, we’re focusing on that very thing.

If you were to look at the social-media traffic alone around 911, there is one thing that you could feel fairly confident about — this show is an enormous hit. Yet, we’ve also learned over time that generating a lot of tweets doesn’t necessarily equate to a show getting good ratings. They are not always one and the same and tweets don’t often make a ton of money.

Luckily, here is the good news when it comes to 911 season 2 — the ratings are so good that it actually matches up with some of the social-media hype that is out there! To date, this batch of episodes is averaging a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and there’s absolutely nothing to sneeze at here. It’s one of Fox’s most-successful shows and it feels as though there’s almost zero reason to worry about its future because of that.

One of the smartest things that we think Fox is doing with 911 right now is taking their time in order to ensure that the show is successful and not over-saturating the market. How are they doing that? Well, for starters, they’re being super-careful and working to make sure that they don’t take on too much, too soon. They don’t want to bite off more than they can chew and they want the demand to stay there. We think that’s going to work and even if the ratings do fall, it’s still going to be okay.

In addition to the ratings for season 2 being so solid, there’s another reason not to worry about the show’s future: The state of Fox as a whole. They don’t exactly have a ton of super-strong scripted hits at the moment. The Resident is solid, but unspectacular; meanwhile, The Gifted and Lethal Weapon are in danger and Gotham is ending. The jury’s still out on The Orville and there are some other things worth thinking about, including Fox losing a night of programming next year to the WWE.

No matter what happens, one thing does feel clear: We’re going to have a chance to see more 911 on the air. While we may not be confident with too much of the Fox schedule right now, we feel like as long as the cast wants to continue, we will be able to see more of this show.
