Friends From College season 3 renewal: Will it happen at Netflix?

Following today’s premiere, what are the chances of a Friends From College season 3 renewal at Netflix? Is that something that we should look out for?

Going into the premiere today, we feel like this is very much up in the air. What Friends From College has going for it on the surface is rather simple — an outstanding cast, and then also being a part of a genre that seems to constantly have a lot of popularity among Netflix viewers. We think that the story itself is also something that appeals to a lot of people out there — we’ve all got friends who we know rather well from college and the idea, in theory, of getting back together with them is fun.

So as for why the show’s renewal hopes are a little bit of a toss-up, it starts with the fact that the critical reception towards the show has never been exemplary. We do think that this matters to a certain degree given that so much of Netflix’s viewing is based on recommendation. There are a lot of people who rely on word of mouth from either friends or critics to get on board with a show.

Beyond just this though, we recognize that this is not the Netflix of old, one in which they were a little more willing to bring back a wide array of different series. They’re a little bit more choosy now when it comes to what they want to see back and also what they are willing to let go of. We’ve seen that with the Marvel universe as of late, but also with shows like Everything Sucks! as well as American Vandal. We have to take the cancellation odds seriously.

One way or another, Netflix will not be announcing a firm decision on Friends From College soon. Odds are, they will wait for at least a month or two of full viewing to come in before they officially render a decision. One thing that we will say at present is that if you want to help the series out, the best thing that you can do is to check out the episodes as fast as you can, and then watch them all from start to finish. It’s going to be problematic if you stop halfway through for a few months, since Netflix may read that as you not having enough interest in seeing the show through.
