The Good Doctor season 2 episode 11 video: Who gets through to Shaun?
In the sneak peek below from Monday’s winter premiere (via Entertainment Weekly), you have a chance to see the other side of this environment. Here, you see Freddie Highmore’s character still struggling, at least until someone manages to find a way to get through to him: Morgan Reznick. This is a fantastic evolution to this character, who at times this series has set up as someone who is cold, hyper-competitive, and not altogether interested in giving Shaun or anyone else a hand. Yet, at the same time she recognizes here that she has an immense responsibility — she wants to help Shaun, but not just because she wants to make herself look good. She wants to help patients and get the situation under control. That’s why, over the course of this sneak peek, we see her channeling the proper advice so that Shaun will get up off the ground and start to get involved again. She needs him.
At the moment, resources are scarce in the St. Bonaventure Hospital. Dr. Lim’s life is on the line, Dr. Park may be distracted with his son’s condition, and unless Shaun is actively participating, it’s possible that there may not be enough medical manpower to keep the hospital going. This is an all-hands-on-deck sort of situation and we do think that, so long as everyone continues to heed Morgan’s advice, that Shaun will be there as a resource. He needs to stay calm — everyone knows that if he is on his game, there are few people out there with the medical knowledge or the skill set that he has.
Still, even with Shaun doing better we would not enter this episode carrying some sort of expectation that every important character is going to make it through okay. Nobody is out of the woods just yet and things are probably going to get worse long before they get better.
