Poldark season 5 filming enters final month; prepare to get emotional

Poldark

It’s still a hard thing to process, but Poldark season 5 filming seems to be near the end — with that, it will also mark the end of the series. It’s been an extraordinary past several years watching the cast all become these characters and play these roles perfectly; now, we have to prepare for the fact that the show is almost done.

In a new post on Twitter, actress Beatie Edney confirmed that she is in process of filming the final month of the BBC One series after the holiday break. Production on season 5 first kicked off in late summer, and our sentiment at the moment is that the final episodes will start airing this summer in the UK and then on PBS in the fall. There is still a good bit of ground to cover from the source material, and we really just hope that the series manages to cover a lot of it.

So what is the legacy of Poldark ultimately going to be? That’s something that we are probably going to see play out in some shape or form over the coming weeks. This is a show that did manage to secure an audience all over the world, and brought viewers into a specific part of British history that they may not have been that familiar with. More than anything though, we think that viewers have just had a chance to really dive into a beautiful story featuring likable, relatable characters who had to overcome great hardship to find success. It’s a tale of underdogs rising through the ranks and trying to make Cornwall a better place — though in the process, they had to take out many an adversary. This show has a number of fantastic villains, whether it be the ones you love to hate (George Warleggan) or the ones who are just pure awfulness (Ossie Whitworth).

We don’t know what the long-term impact of Poldark will be, but our hope is that it at least encourages more networks to look at these sort of romantic epics with a number of interesting characters and a multitude of themes. Poldark is a perfect example of how a show can often be so much more than just a single genre or about a singular period of time. Sometimes, there are some themes that transcend.
