The Big Bang Theory season 12: Kaley Cuoco on saying goodbye

Big Bang Theory season 11 episode 19

The Big Bang Theory season 12 is going to be the final season on CBS — that much is clear. But, what’s the experience like of actually filming it behind the scenes? It shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone that it’s an emotional experience.

Speaking to Ryan Seacrest during the Golden Globes red-carpet show on Sunday, Cuoco admitted that “it’s starting to get a little heavy — tears are welling up” now that the show is getting so much closer to the end of the road. At one point, we were at a point in the series where there was still a ton of shows still to go. However, production is getting closer to the home stretch and each taping means a little bit more. Cuoco said jokingly that she hoped the final episode would be planned and taped a little differently, just because she didn’t know how she would get through it the normal way.

While we know that Cuoco was speaking about this in a fairly lighthearted way, we actually do wonder precisely how The Big Bang Theory is going to plan out the end of the series given that there are often so many spoilers that tend to get out even from standard tapings. There’s an option that they could tape the finale without the typical live studio audience, but we’ll see what happens when it gets a little bit closer. Regardless of how the story ends, we imagine that it’s going to be a powerful goodbye for everyone who has rooted for these characters for so long … let alone actually played them on TV. This show has changed lives and basically been the last of the super-sitcoms that really took over TV and generated massive ratings an almost-weekly basis. Even now, when it is far from the show that it once was, The Big Bang Theory does still have a large audience.

The next new episode of The Big Bang Theory is going to air on CBS on Thursday. Be prepared for the series finale to air come May, and we feel like a few more details are going to start coming out for it be around the time we get to April. Get ready for a teary, but also hopefully-funny, experience as a whole.
