Kevin Hart (seemingly) responds to more Ellen interview backlash
This brings us, more or less, to the situation that we are at following his controversial interview on Ellen Friday, one in which Ellen DeGeneres pushed for him to become the host for the Oscars once more. While he reiterated that he had apologized both in the past and the present for homophobic remarks made years ago, the tune was almost one of defiance more so than one that was sympathetic towards those he had hurt. There was almost a “don’t let the trolls get to you” mentality when reality, many of these trolls weren’t trolls at all. They were people who felt like his words had reinforced stereotypes and/or brought back pain from their past.
Both Ellen and Hart have come under fire for some of their handling of this interview, with CNN’s Don Lemon going on the air last night advocating for Hart to become more of an “ally” to black LGBTQ youth rather than just apologizing and moving on. From his vantage point, there was a difference between saying you are sorry and then showing that you want to make the situation right and create a stronger environment in the future.
Today, Hart has seemingly responded again to all of the backlash, this time seemingly try to offer some sort of advice(?) in the midst of this situation. What this response from Hart tells us mostly is this: If you’re wanting something specific from him in the aftermath of all that has happened, you’re probably not going to get it. He may also still end up being the host of the Oscars. This is something that, in one way or another, we just have to prepare for, regardless of if we actually want it.
