Last Man Standing season 8 renewal odds: The latest Ratings Report

With Last Man Standing, we have a show that we never hesitate to write about when it comes to its ratings just because it’s a fascinating story. It’s a show that somehow managed to come back after a year off the air — a remarkable feat in itself — and is finding a way still to perform incredibly well.
The state of the ratings – This brings us to the part of the feature where we actually break down the numbers. In live ratings so far, Last Man Standing is averaging a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic — that’s fantastic, to put it lightly. It’s the #1 Friday show in the demo and it’s one of TV’s most-successful comedies as a whole. While the ratings did drop after the huge premiere in September, that was somewhat to be expected given the fact that there was so much hype around the first episode. The series’ lowest-rated episode of the year was the Christmas episode, but that was to be expected given that it was the holiday season.
Renewal Odds – Call it a lock. So long as Tim Allen and most of the cast want to return, Last Man Standing will return. The larger question is when it will air since Fox is moving away from scripted programming on Fridays starting this fall; they are going with the WWE instead in that spot. We’ve felt for a while that Tuesday would make a sensible destination for Last Man Standing given that this is where the show first started so many years ago.
When will a firm decision be announced? – Think in terms of the spring, most likely. While Fox could announce a renewal at any given time, they are under no obligation to do so for a while. There could also be contractual things that need to be worked out; usually, we’re able to predict and figure things out with shows and contracts. This one’s a little bit of a different situation since everyone had to be re-signed to new deals after the initial cancellation for the Fox version of the show to happen. The length of these said deals will probably help to determine whether or not we’re looking at an easy process.
