The Walking Dead, The Flash, Westworld among 2018’s most-pirated

Walking Dead season 8

It’s become somewhat of an odd tradition to look at the most-pirated shows of the year, and on New Year’s Day, we’re it all over again.

Of course, the biggest headline for this year is actually the show that isn’t on the list, put out every year by TorrentFreakGame of ThronesBecause there were no new episodes that came on the air in 2018, there was in turn no way in which for the series to appear here. Yet, rest assured there were many other familiar faces on the list. Let’s take a look at them, with plenty of analysis along the way.

1) The Walking Dead – No shock here. It’s the most-popular cable show out there save for Game of Thrones and traditionally, cable shows are pirated ad-nauseum compared to broadcast just because there are fewer people with access.

2) The Flash – Meanwhile, superhero shows have a young audience and are popular around the world — there are likely a lot of fans of The Flash located outside of America.

3) The Big Bang Theory – Even in its final season, this series is still going very strong.

4) Vikings – Surprised to see the show on here? You shouldn’t be, given that it is a cable entry with a loyal audience and a subject matter that may be even more popular in places outside of Europe.

5) Titans – This series is likely on here because in America, it airs on the DC Universe streaming service — something that people are only starting to dive into now. International viewers haven’t had a ton of access.

6) Arrow – See The Flash. The criteria remains the same.

7) Supernatural – The CW shows in general tend to have a younger audience, one that may be a little more into online piracy.

8) Westworld – It’s HBO. Only so many people out there get it.

9) Legends of Tomorrow – We’re not so thrilled that piracy is out there, but we are happy that there is a devoted audience of people who are still excited to watch this show — it’s our favorite superhero show of 2018 and it deserves more credit.

10) Suits – We should note that the USA drama appeared on this list even before Meghan Markle was a Royal Family member. Therefore, don’t make any correlations between that and it all of a sudden being successful here.

You will get a chance to see The Walking Dead, the #1 show on the list, back in February with some all-new episodes. If you want to read a little bit more news all about it now, you can do so by visiting the link here.
