A Series Of Unfortunate Events season 4: Why isn’t it happening?

Today on Netflix, the streaming service premiered A Series Of Unfortunate Events season 3 — a great chance to dive back into this fascinating world. The third season has been billed as the end of the road for a while, but this of course begs another question: Why end here? Why not do a season 4 of the series?

Sometimes, there are series out there that end because of low ratings or because a show isn’t performing up to snuff. That doesn’t seem to be the case here. Instead, it’s been planned for a long time that this is when the series starring Neil Patrick Harris would end. This is an adaptation, for starters, and there comes a certain point where everything is told that needs to be told. This appears to be where the show is getting at this particular point in time. The third season of A Series of Unfortunate Events serves as an adaptation of the final four books in the series.

Could the show have really continued in some form? In theory, sure, but then everyone would’ve had to come up with a separate story and it really wouldn’t deviated so far from what the series was that it wouldn’t make any sense. Netflix, no matter who they are making a given show for, seems cognizant of the idea that a great show does not seemingly need to go on forever! Sometimes, it’s okay to just reach a natural end point and then allow everyone a chance to move forward into other stuff. The plan was always to tell the story of the books and then allow everyone to head off into other ventures.

So, if you do enjoy the show, we suggest that you just watch and enjoy it while you can.

What’s next for Neil Patrick Harris?

This is what we’re very much curious about at the moment given that the guy is so talented and there are a wide array of different things that he could do. While we certainly do think that he could stick with Netflix and do another streaming series, we personally would love it in the event he got back into network television. His How I Met Your Mother role was so iconic just because it was so over-the-top and fun, and that showed that he would be absolutely in demand for another sitcom.

So long as he is getting a chance to bring energy and enthusiasm to another role, we’re going to be pretty darn happy with the end result.

Are you sad that A Series of Unfortunate Events season 3 is the final one, and would you have liked to somehow see more from this world? Be sure to share right now in the attached comments. (Photo: Netflix.)
