Golden Globes 2019 video: Andy Samberg, Sandra Oh have fun
If you look below, you can see a number of promos featuring the excellent one-two punch of Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, which on paper seems to be one of the most random pairings of all time. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Killing Eve stars are not necessarily on a lot of shows together, and nor do they have some sort of rich history. As a matter of fact, it appears as though the decision for the two to host stems mostly from the fact that they did a good job of presenting together at the Emmys earlier this year. That showed that they had some really good chemistry and we certainly think that this is something that the Globes and NBC wanted to capitalize on. These are two people who are very popular in their own way and because of that, they bring a lot of people together.
Of course, it’s also not lost on us that there are some added reasons for all of this to be happening this year. With Samberg, for example, the new season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is premiering on NBC (its first time on the network) a few days after the premiere. Meanwhile, Oh is a Golden Globe nominee and it’s clear that there is going to be some attention on her throughout the show.
What we’re anticipating from the Globes this year is ultimately rather simple: Something a little bit lighthearted and relaxing. Samberg’s not the sort of comedian who is going to want to go up there and roast anyone. Meanwhile, we don’t exactly think that this is Oh’s priority, either. They’re probably going to just want to present a silly show that has a number of cheeky one-liners and moments that people reflect on fondly down the road. Who knows? If they do a really awesome job, maybe it’s something that they could have an opportunity to do again down the line. For Oh in particular, it’s a chance to be known more for comedy after spending most of their career on dramas.
