Outlander season 4 episode 9: Will Jamie, Brianna meeting lead to ratings high?

We’re coming off of a week now for the Starz drama where the ratings slipped a little bit, and understandably so given the fact that it was just two days before Christmas! We certainly think that a number of casual viewers (the folks who tend to watch live as opposed to checking out the episode on the app early) found a way to check it out; it’s just a little bit harder to do so in typical fashion in the holiday season. Now, however, we’re nearing the end of the holiday cycle. Most people who have traveled for Christmas are now officially on the other side of that and looking forward to New Year’s Day. We think that there is a larger pool of viewers available out there, and we certainly do hope that some of these people are going to be checking out the show in a way in which they have all season.
Of course, having this episode feature the Jamie – Brianna meeting is the icing on the cake. This is one of those moments that you don’t want to wait to watch — it’s similar to the Print Shop scene in terms of anticipation — and we think that it will make casual viewers make even more of a commitment to watch live than they would otherwise.
Our current prediction
We don’t want to set up the series for a disappointment here and say that it will post its best overall numbers of the season. Yet, at the same time we do think that it will cross the 1 million live-viewer threshold again and pick up some of the positive momentum that the series had before last week faltered a little bit.
All of this is, of course, building up towards what is going to be an epic, memorable finale — one that hopefully will draw some of the best ratings of the season next year. We do think that there are going to be some challenges that the show faces in the month of January, mostly competition via awards show and attention on the NFL playoffs. Yet, Outlander has taken on many a challenge and persevered to date — there’s no reason to think that they will be anything other than fine. We also do recognize still that the majority of Outlander viewers are checking out the series via some other means.
