One thing that we can say coming out of the first half of the season for Legacies is that this is a show that ran the gamut and delivered a number of really-interesting stories from start to finish. First and foremost, it was fun. It made sense for The Originals to be a little bit more hard-nosed and serious. However, Legacies has captured a sense of humor and adventure that was there more in the early Vampire Diaries seasons, but is perhaps even a little more lighthearted than that. It’s also completely allowed itself to explore all sorts of different mythological creatures, including the Malivore at the center of it all.
As we move into the new year, it definitely does make sense for Legacies to explore some of this a little bit more and just embrace some of the fun, youthful energy that it has. Take some chances, and really embrace the fact that this is a show that is built in some ways for a new generation. While you can honor the source material, try to have as much fun as possible along the way.
In terms of specific characters, however, we mostly just want to see a buildup of some of the relationships. We do think that the relationship between Hope and Landon is worth exploring a little bit further and beyond just that, we want to see Hope’s friendship with Josie and Lizzie also improve. While we are sure that there’s going to be plenty of conflict, there needs to be a balance between drama and giving these people some lighter notes to play. That includes everyone from MG to Rafael to Lizzie to Josie. We think that Josie has really established herself especially as a fan favorite, so if we can get some more stories from her point of view, the better.
Also, wouldn’t it be nice to have a few more stories that gave you more insight into the responsibilities of Alaric? He’s the person keeping the Salvatore School going more so than anyone else and we certainly do think that there is a lot of ground that can be covered here with him even beyond some of what we’ve had a chance to see so far.
In the end, Legacies needs to just keep coming up with creative twists, interesting storylines, and also moments to allow its young characters to act their age. It’s okay to put the weight of their shoulders at times … but not all of the time.
