God Friended Me episode 13 preview: A flurry of friend suggestions

As we prepare for God Friended Me episode 13 airing on CBS on January 13, there are some interesting things worth noting. For starters, this episode could have theoretically been the season finale! Originally, the series was given a 13-episode order before seven more episodes were added on after the fact; it would have been interesting to see if this episode would have actually served as the finale if the order stayed at 13, or if the writers changed their plan once those extra installments were added on.

“Miracle on 123^rd Street” – Miles is shocked when the God Account sends him 76 simultaneous friend suggestions. Also, Ali moves in with Miles while her apartment is being fumigated, and Rakesh receives surprising news at work, on GOD FRIENDED ME, Sunday, Jan. 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

There were two different ways that God Friended Me could’ve gone with this episode in the event they wanted it to be a big one — they could have given you more information on Falken / anyone else supposedly responsible for the God Account, or they could’ve just given you a crazy Friend Suggestion of the Week. They’ve clearly gone with the latter here given that we don’t even know where to start with Miles getting 76 suggestions at one time. What can he really do in order to take all of those on?

As for the other storylines within this episode, they seem a little more along the lines of fascinating personal material for the characters, which may or may not be altogether important down the line. It’s mostly just critical that they have a continued role in the story and with Miles’ life. Eventually, we do think that Miles will get more people involved in the day-to-day of trying to help people, but we’re not entirely sure that we’re there at the moment. After all, at present the show is really trying to focus mostly on finding cohesion with Miles, Cara, and Rakesh — they are sort of the big three and there is a lot of emotional groundwork to lay here.

After this episode…

Be prepared for at least a one-week hiatus, as CBS has the AFC Championship Game the following week. Beyond that, there could be some other breaks due to the Super Bowl, the Oscars, and the Grammys coming up. There may be a hole in there for an episode or two, but CBS may be better off just putting God Friended Me on a bit of a hiatus until March so that they don’t confuse viewers along the way of when episodes are actually airing.
