Madam Secretary, 911 season 2, Poldark casts send out Happy Holidays mess

Madam Secretary

Today is (of course) Christmas Day, and we are absolutely sending out the best to everyone reading! We’re also happy to report that many cast and crews are doing the same thing.

While there are a number of official show accounts that are sending out today more-generic holiday greeting videos, we always love to spotlight here some of the accounts that are going above and beyond in order to give us something special. Luckily, there are some out there doing that very thing.

If you look below, you can see Christmas greetings from the casts of a number of different shows, whether it be Madam Secretary, Empire, 911, The Resident, or even Poldark over in the UK. There’s something very fun and simplistic about these, and we especially love it when you see something you don’t expect. Take, for example, seeing the man behind Dr. Bell in Bruce Greenwood wish you a Happy Holidays — it’s a rather quick reminder that he’s only playing a loathsome character on a television show rather than actually being loathsome in real life.

We do think that these sort of messages matter from a social-marketing standpoint, mostly because in 2018, being a fan of a television show is in so many ways akin to being a part of a community. It’s a group of like-minded people all coming together for the cause of supporting / celebrating something that they care about deeply. It’s a unique experience and we like that something like it is out there in order to bring so many people together from different walks of life. These videos are recognition and validation of that.

Also, it’s just nice to have a little bit of a reminder of these shows right now given that so many of them are in hiatus. All of the series mentioned here are going to be returning in the new year, though with Poldark in particular you’ll be waiting for a while. (Think in terms of the summer.) Madam Secretary, meanwhile, will be returning on January 6 with new episodes — the midseason finale for that show / the first part of the 200th episode only aired for the first time on Sunday! Its break is a little bit shorter than most.
