This Is Us season 3 spoilers: Are there clues buried in the past?

Speaking via TVLine, Logan Shroyer, who plays the younger version of Kevin on the series, made it very clear that there are some hints of future storylines that are buried in most of what you’ve seen so far:
“I can just say that if anybody wants to do the research and look back at scenes and things that are discussed, like what is Sophie doing, and where Kate’s dreams lie and stuff like that, you can probably deduce what’s going to happen, or some possibility of what’s going to happen, because the writers are very specific about the stuff that they bring up.”
It really should not come as much of a surprise to anyone out there that the writers are this deliberate. After all, we’re talking here about a series that only has a certain number of episodes a season and with that, there are really only so many stories that they have time for. They have to find a way to cram as many stories into the show as humanly possible and they’re not going to waste that real estate on something that doesn’t matter.
Of course, for a character like Kevin the biggest thing that we want for him is peace — mostly because this is someone who’s constantly been chasing one demon or another. For much of his adult life, that demon has been addiction. As of late, though, it’s been more curiosity as to what really happened to his father. This is why he went all the way to Vietnam in order to find answers … only to realize in the process that what he was truly seeking was actually so much closer to home than he first realized. Nicky Pearson is seemingly alive; not only that, but he is back in America. There are a number of things worth wondering now, including just how much Jack kept from everyone and then also what happens in the event the Pearsons actually meet Nicky. This is someone, after all, who has experienced a great deal of trauma in his life.
