When the CW series is back on Sunday, January 20, it does look as though Kara is going to continue to face questions regarding her secret identity and what she wants to do with it … including whether or not she’s ever going to be okay with people connecting Kara Danvers and Kara Zor-El. She was already given an ultimatum by the new President — either come clean to the public about who she really is, or no longer work as a part of the DEO. She recognized the danger that this would cause for both herself and those she cared about; with that, she opted to not continue to work there.

Of course, the problem with this now is rather simple: Without the DEO, she doesn’t have the support of the government … which makes her in turn a rogue agent. It’s harder for her to do her job without backup, especially if she ends up doing something that, even on accident, draws the government’s ire. We have a hard time, after all, thinking that there is much of anything that she would actually do on purpose.

What Kara has to do now is figure out something that she probably never wanted to even think about: Whether or not she can imagine her life being the same without Supergirl as a part of it. Can she really move forward and be someone other than a Kryptonian who saves lives? There’s some serious soul-searching that is going to have to go on within this episode and, more than likely, she’s not going to be able to determine precisely what it is that she’s supposed to do. It’s not often that we see superheroes have the sort of secret identity crisis that Kara’s going to have here but, suffice it to say, we’re excited to see whatever the story brings as we continue to move forward.

Ultimately, we will say this: It’s hard to envision Supergirl without its title character. With that in mind, we have to think that at some point, she’s going to put on the cape again and continue to do what she does best, government support or no government support.
