The bad news at the moment is simply that, alas, there is no new installment coming on the network from now until January 4. That means that there is no traditional Christmas episode this year and that will probably be a bummer to everyone (we know it’s a bummer to us!). Yet, there is some conventional wisdom that you can’t do too many holiday episodes — you want them all to feel special and you don’t want to put one out there just for the sake of doing one. Kind of like what Doctor Who is doing this year, where instead of the normal Christmas special they’ve opted to do a New Year’s special.
So what can you expect when Hawaii Five-0 comes on the air in January? The first thing is fairly simple, as the series is going to be doing whatever it can in order to pick up on the big Joe White shocker from the fall finale. Losing this character is not going to be the easiest thing in the world to come to terms with and for good reason: He was an extremely valuable person within Steve McGarrett’s life and their relationship dated back for decades. It’s going to be hard to move forward without him and in the aftermath of his death, revenge is going to be on this mind. Be prepared for some of the most action-packed installments of Hawaii Five-0 that we’ve seen when the series returns, mostly because he and some of his friends are going to pool resources in order to do whatever they can to turn the tide. (Catherine, as seen above, is one of the people stopping by.)
Of course, there’s also going to be some sort of case wedged into this episode, as well … not that this should really be all that much of a surprise to anyone. Hawaii Five-0 is a series that really runs on a currency of mixing action and police-work, and while Steve will be out on his revenge tour, some other members of the task force are going to be holding down the fort at the office. We don’t want to say that they are taking on some sort of ordinary crime … mostly because there are really no ordinary crimes at all when it comes to this team.
