Goliath renewed for season 3 by Amazon, likely premiering in 2019
There’s been talk around a season 3 renewal for a little while now, and everyone has been toiling away behind the scenes for quite some time. There was never any indication that Amazon was considering cancellation here, which they really shouldn’t given that this is a solid show as a part of its stable, and it’s got some pretty good star power to boot.
Now that we’ve seen the official season 3 logline below (via Deadline), there’s even more of a reason to be excited:
In season 3, the unexpected death of an old friend leads Billy McBride (Thornton) to take a case in the drought-stricken Central Valley where he comes face-to-face with a new Goliath: a billionaire rancher (Dennis Quaid) and his sister (Amy Brenneman). As Billy and his team pursue the truth, old enemies and personal demons resurface, forcing him to confront his own mortality.
Getting both Quaid and Brenneman on board this season is a nice feather in the series’ cap, and beyond that, we’ve also learned that Beau Bridges is also going to be stopping by in a notable role. One of the biggest strengths for a show like Goliath is that with every season comes a different case and an opportunity for a number of different guest stars. Who wouldn’t want to work on a show like this given that there’s a lot of meaty material that you can take on?
We consider Goliath at the moment to be a stable part of Amazon’s wheelhouse drama-series programming, which also includes the likes of Bosch, Sneaky Pete, Jack Ryan, and potentially also Homecoming following its enormously-successful first season. These are shows with a lot of acting talent in front of the camera that have seemingly performed well for them … though the service is rather hesitant to release viewership data for any of their series. We understand that, mostly because there is admittedly a little bit of value that comes via keeping that information away from competitors, but this renewal is a good sign that this show performs for Amazon.
New episodes of Goliath, based on the timing of this renewal and some of the casting news out there, will likely premiere in 2019. Once there is some more news to pass along on that subject, we’ll have it for you here.
