Is The Good Doctor new tonight on ABC? What lies ahead now

The sad news at the moment is rather simple: There’s no new installment coming on the network tonight. Last week was the winter finale, which is probably one of the reasons why the writers decided that this was the time in order to throw out some of the biggest emotional gut-punches of the entire series. How bad was it? Well, there are a number of different ways to define it. For starters, you have Shaun starting to become overwhelmed amidst the outbreak, Dr. Lim’s life is on the line, and then Dr. Glassman’s cancer is seemingly back. There are some other stories sprinkled in there, as well, but odds are, you get the jist based on what we’re writing at the moment.
When The Good Doctor does return to the air, it feels pretty clear precisely how the show is going to move forward — by picking up almost exactly where the winter finale left off. The fate of Dr. Lim will need to be resolved, Shaun may need some help, and Dr. Glassman may need to learn next steps if there are some next steps for him. That’s the story that we are the most worried about, mostly because it’s one thing for him to have to fight cancer once; it’s another thing to put him through all of this again after all of the suffering that he went through.
Beyond the medical stories at the heart of this series, there are still many personal issues that also have to be tackled and cannot be forgotten about. For example, what will happen to Dr. Melendez and Dr. Lim after what we saw from them in the winter finale? Meanwhile, what’s going to be coming for Shaun and Lea? Is Dr. Park going to find a way to bond more with his son? As great as some of the medical cases are on this show, we also would be remiss if we were to act as though these were the only important parts of the show. Without the characters and the relationships, none of this would matter.
