Following tonight’s fall finale for The Good Doctor, it is fair to ask one question: Is Christina Chang leaving the show?

Well, for the time being, the producers have apparently decided to make this one of many different cliffhangers that they are throwing at you in a reasonably short period of time. Dr. Lim, in the closing minutes of the episode, collapsed on the floor after being infected by the same airborne disease that was causing chaos elsewhere in the hospital. She did her best in order to help countless other patients but, by the end of the fall finale, it wasn’t entirely clear that anyone was going to be able to help her. (Having this happen almost completely negates the other big cliffhanger that people could have been thinking about, i.e. precisely what was going on with her and Dr. Melendez.)
Speaking via TVLine, Chang makes it clear that “we pick up exactly where we left off. Like, seconds later” when the show comes back in January with new episodes. Alas, there is no word on her fate or her future. While she is in the best possible place she can be all things considered, so many doctors are already scattered and left to their own devices. Morgan is basically stranded, while Shaun is in the midst of a complete anxiety attack. Meanwhile, Alex Park’s son may end up be susceptible to the virus, meaning that he is going to have to go through quite the emotional ringer of his own.
Also, did we mention that Dr. Glassman’s cancer looks as though it’s back? overall, this episode was about as difficult and painful as they come and we’re not sure if, down the road, Glassman is going to make it out of this again. While we’re worried about many different characters within this world, we are easily the most concerned about him in the long-term just because it took so much work to try and make the cancer go away the first time. It’s a hard thing to really take on and try to stop time and time again.
We give the writers of The Good Doctor credit for delivering what may very well be one of the most-insane fall finales of the entire season. We don’t quite know how they are going to move forward from this, but absolutely give them credit for whatever they try.
