Outlander season 4: Charting out Brianna’s journey ahead

Outlander season 4 episode 5 is arriving on Starz this weekend and, at least at present, it is fairly clear that there’s some good stuff that is coming. Some of it, in fact, may put Sophie Skelton’s Brianna at the center of the story!

In tail end of the promo for Sunday’s episode hints that Brianna may be inching ever closer to being able to travel through the stones herself, but where things get a little bit interesting is with the photos that are out there. We’ve written about most of the photos that were released by Starz this week, but a common thread among them is that none of them actually feature Brianna at all. (Check out the link here to see some of the latest images.) What gives there? If we were to make our own grand prediction, it’s that this represents Starz trying to keep as much of this hush-hush for as long as they possibly could.

In general, this seems to be the Starz strategy for many key story-points with Brianna — trying to keep them under wraps for as long as possible, even though book readers know they are coming. There are a couple of especially-notable ones coming following the point the character does arrive at the famous stones; one of them is absolutely horrific, whereas the other is more of a cause for celebration. When these happen, they are moments that could get both readers and non-readers alike, but it’s probably fair to say that you will not see either on this weekend’s new episode.

Yet, depending on how Starz chooses to air out their remaining episodes for December, it is possible that before Christmas, many of the story’s major Brianna events could transpire. Now that the journey is beginning, it may be best to go ahead and prepare yourself according. We anticipate a number of pieces out there regarding both the events themselves in a literal sense and then also how Starz chooses to portray them on the air. As difficult as some of these stories may be, many of them are going to be hard to ignore within the context of Drums of Autumn. Expect a larger focus to come here within due time, especially now that the ball is rolling with Brianna heading to the stones. This is the moment we were waiting for in order to begin a larger discussion in earnest; we will just have to see how far season 4 episode 5 chooses to take her.
