Blue Bloods season 9 episode 9 photo: Eddie’s story in ‘Handcuffs’
At the start of this episode (entitled “Handcuffs”), you are going to see Frank Reagan make a controversial decision after he finds out that a number of his officers in a local neighborhood are being harassed. He decides that he is going to order a raid of people with outstanding warrants, which could mean some mass arrests and also the destruction of the relationship between cops and the local community. Jamie and Eddie are out going to be in the thick of things, doing their part to fulfill the mission. They’re not up at the top of the police food chain and with that, they have no choice other than to do what is asked of them. This could be that there’s a blowback to what they are doing, but haven’t the two of them taken on worse?
The big challenge for Jamko, at least from our vantage point, in this episode is going to be handling the fact that the other person could be in danger. We’ve certainly seen before a good example of what can happen when Jamie is overly concerned about Eddie in the field. He needs to remember that his partner is very good at what she does and because of that, she doesn’t actually need his help all of the time. The more that he does try and interfere, the higher the odds eventually are that something happens that leads to more people finding out the truth about the engagement.
Rest assured that we do still think that this is something that is going to happen at some point in the future — after all, doesn’t it have to? They are going to get married eventually and the moment that happens, everyone at this precinct is going to know the truth. That could cause some hurt feelings, especially since all of these cops likely felt like they have a relationship with Jamie and Eddie and they were somewhat lied to by all of this. Granted, nobody ever asked and with that in mind, that’s probably their sort of plausible deniability … at least for now. We’ll see if that ends up lasting.
