Going into the show, we found ourselves worried a little bit about Lynnea Moorer, who needed the Save in order to stay alive, but also a number of other notable contestants including DeAndre Nico and Dave Fenley. iTunes sales are often a really good indicator in whether or not someone is safe or going home, but they aren’t necessarily the only factor that matters — there’s a lot that goes into a contestant’s longevity, and having a consistent body of work also certainly matters in a big way.

Throughout this episode, we’re going to have more on the results, including the recipient of the #VoiceSave … stay tuned!

The first results

The initial two artists to be declared safe were Kennedy Holmes and Kymberli Joye, which really shouldn’t be a shock given that these two artists were at the top of the iTunes rankings. Meanwhile, Reagan Strange and Chris Kroeze were the next ones to get a little bit of good news. Kirk Jay received a little bit after the fact, and MaKenzie Thomas followed him up not too much later. Chevel Shepherd, Sarah Grace, and Dave Fenley ended up following them up.

Who needed the #VoiceSave?

It was between Lynnea Moorer (again) and then also DeAndre Nico. Of the two, we feel like Lynnea was the better of the two contestants. Yet, there are no guarantees when it comes to sticking around in the competition — Lynnea’s definitely an underdog, but she’s overcome a lot already.

The person moving forward is … DeAndre! We do think that he had the better sing-off between the two tonight, but beyond just that, there’s just been more time for everyone to get to know him and his story. It just made a whole lot of sense for him to get the save this week, though this does mess up the narrative of the ultimate comeback kid to a certain extent.

Nonetheless, we do think that DeAndre has the potential to stick around a little while … he just picked a song that was a little bit too dated for modern The Voice audiences with this past episode. He’s got a new opportunity coming next week to try something new.
