MacGyver season 3 episode 10 spoilers: The search for Ethan

If you recall, what the Dragonfly file revealed earlier this month is that Matty Webber has a husband named Ethan, someone who has been MIA for the better part of several years. She’s chosen to keep Ethan’s status a mystery from just about everyone … at least until this episode airs. That’s when all secrets are going to be exposed and everything will start to be a little bit more out in the open, mostly because there is a change in Ethan’s status during his undercover mission. She will need Mac and the rest of the team to step in and help, provided of course that rescuing him is even possible.

“Matty + Ethan + Fidelity” – Matty reveals a shocking secret to the team: she has a husband who’s been undercover in a criminal organization called D-Company for eight years. When his status as a CIA agent comes out, Matty needs MacGyver to find and extract her husband before it’s too late, on MACGYVER, Friday, Dec. 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Before really diving any deeper with this, can we at least celebrate the fact that MacGyver is actually giving us more on the Matty mystery so soon? When we learned the truth about Ethan’s existence, it felt in the moment like that may not be paid off for a long while. Now, there is (at least) a chance we could see a reunion in this episode, though we also recognize that there’s also a chance that someone could rip out our heart and stomp on it. Can’t Matty just be happy?
For those wondering, Ethan is being played by Suits actor Brendan Hines. Meanwhile, another welcome bit of guest-starring news is that former Heroes star Sendhil Ramamurthy (who is now recurring on New Amsterdam) is also going to popping up at some point in this episode. You also may also remember him from Reverie, which aired this summer on NBC.
Is it possible for more personal Matty stories later this season?
Fingers crossed! It’s absolutely a welcoming sign that CBS is giving us two in a fairly short amount of time featuring Matt and we know that Meredith Eaton has fantastic range on this show balancing out a wide range of material. A part of what makes this character so great is seeing what happens when she is put in a vulnerable situation — it only happens every so often.
